Our family is deeply rooted in Marin County. My wife Margot grew up in Corte Madera and graduated from Redwood High School. Our daughter Ella is at Hall Middle School and loves playing the flute in the school band. Her brother Milo is at Cove Elementary and was proud that his team won the Twin Cities Little League championship this year.
We love our public parks, access to hiking trails, and the vibrant community in Corte Madera. We are thankful for the teachers, fire fighters, police officers, public employees, and local businesses that support our community.
Both my grandfathers served in the military and my father served in the US Army Reserves (3rd Calvary). I learned the skills and mindset to serve my community at a young age on the path to Eagle Scout. I believe every American has a responsibility to serve and contribute their talents to benefit the community.
I was raised to value hard work. My mother worked two jobs for most of my childhood. After her day job in manufacturing, she worked nights as a caterer. My father was a hardware salesman and I worked with him at Home Depot most summers. They lived the American dream and I'm an advocate for small businesses.
My father's parents immigrated from Russia to escape violence and persecution for being Jewish. I am deeply connected to the Jewish value of Tikkun Olam (heal the world) and aware of the challenges faced by minority groups. I'm proud to be a Jewish American and an ally for underrepresented minority groups.
My mother was raised Baptist in the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee and my father was raised Jewish in Brooklyn. The Summer of Love in San Francisco brought them together and they raised me in Los Angeles. This mixing of cultures, traditions, and ethnicities instilled in me the importance of finding shared values.
My commitment to building and supporting the organizations that enrich our community has been a foundation of my life for over 20 years. I have served as an advisor and board member for non-profits ranging from community arts and mental health to a local Jewish newspaper and contemporary art museum.
After 10 years in non-profit management, I was recruited to a fast growth skincare start-up to lead business innovation for a sales organization of 250,000 distributers. For the last ten years I have worked as an executive and independent consultant for 10 early stage companies with a focus on sales, product, and technology.
I was deeply impacted by 9/11 and spent the early part of my career as a political activist focused on Middle East peace and terrorism. My experience lobbying elected officials, leading missions to Washington, and training the next generation of political activists provides me a unique perspective on public service.
Five years ago I was recruited to a real estate start-up that acquired 5,000 luxury apartments and pioneered flexible apartment living. Since then I have worked in a variety of roles in real estate and property technology. This experience provides me a unique perspective on building and managing housing in our community.
